Slovenia's SDS opposition party emerged winner of the European elections, according to exit polls from Sunday's vote, according to dpa. The SDS, led by former premier Janez Jansa, picked up between 26.5 to 31.6 per cent of the vote, giving them 2-3 legislators in the 736- seat parliament, the exit polls showed. The Social Democrats, led by current Prime Minister Boris Pahor, polled between 18.2 to 21.5 per cent, leaving them in second place. They are expected to send two deputies to the new parliament. The conservative New Slovenia (NSI), the Liberal Democrats (LDS) and Zares, another liberal party, were each projected to win one seat. Turnout was a record low of 25 per cent.
