The Ukrainian president says he will not allow his opponents to abolish direct presidential elections, according to AP. Viktor Yushchenko spoke Friday as his rivals were in talks on a coalition and power sharing deal. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the main opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych also are proposing changes to the constitution that would let the parliament elect the country's president. Yushchenko told reporters: «As president of Ukraine, I will not allow the next elections to be held in parliament. Period.» He called the proposed change «a witches' dance, an anti-constitutional coup.»
