Intel is to acquire Wind River Systems Inc for 884 million dollars, dpa quoted the world's largest maker of personal computer chips as announcing Today. Wind River makes software for handheld devices, cars, network devices and the defence and aerospace industries, and analysts said that Intel's move was part of its effort to diversify beyond its traditional strength in the PC market. Wind River was founded in 1981 and has more than 1,600 employees. Intel said it will pay 11.50 dollars a share, a 44-per-cent premium to Wednesday's closing price.
