The U.S. military says 44 suspected insurgents have been detained during a joint American-Iraqi operation north of Baghdad. A statement released Tuesday says the suspects were detained Sunday in Kirkuk by U.S. soldiers and Iraqi police. The U.S. military says it was the largest joint operation of American troops and Iraqi police in the city of Kirkuk, Associated Press reported.
