The Saudi Geological Survey Commission, Saudi Arabia's authority in charge of monitoring and controlling seismological activity in the country, said today that the volcanic activity at Harrat Al-Shaqa, which showed unprecedented activity over the last few weeks, registered recent remarkable fall in terms of number and strength. In a press statement, the authority said very few quakes, measuring 2.8 at their highest degree on the Richter scale, were registered during the last 24 hours. The statement said no volcanic smokes were reported, while thermal scales remained stable with small decline of the radon gas in ground water. It was also noted that ground fractures accompanying the seismological activity in Harrat Al-Shaqa were not widening, the statement said.
