The White House on Wednesday spoke out against North Korea's continued threats against American and South Korean warships that were near the Korean waters. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs spoke out against the North's actions the same day that they threatened military action against the warships that were on the waters near the Koreas' disputed maritime border, raising the specter of a naval clash just days after the regime's underground nuclear test. Seemingly belittling North Korea's threats, Gibbs said that the “threats won't get North Korea the attention it craves,” but then clarified that the United States does take those threats seriously. Gibbs said that this obvious “frustration” that the North Koreans are not willingly fulfilling their international obligations to stop their nuclear programs. “What North Korea's doing is hurting North Korea…[they] are isolating…hurting themselves,” he said.
