Two more deaths from the A(H1N1) influenza virus were confirmed Wednesday in Mexico, bringing the country's death toll from the so-called swine flu to 60, according to dpa. Mexican Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos said 9,000 samples have been processed and 2,446 have tested positive for the virus. The figure increased from 58 dead and 2,282 infections on Tuesday. Cordova Villalobos said tourists can safely return to Mexico, since the virus' presence in tourist areas has been "very low" and since the epidemic is withdrawing. His comments came as Mexico's economically crucial tourist sector, and particularly its seaside resorts, are facing a sharp fall in the number of visitors due to the flu epidemic. Cordoba Villalobos said there had been seven infections in the resort area of Cancun, eight in Acapulco and two in Huatulco, with no deaths in those areas. The most recent among these cases showed the first symptoms of the virus more than two weeks ago, he said. "There is no risk for tourists to return to these places of vacation, of rest, given that the frequency of the cases is very low," Cordova Villalobos stressed.
