An Official spokesman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said Friday (May 8, 2009), a Saudi Airliner flight Number-9061, arriving from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, landed at King Khalid International Airport at 15:56 hours local time, and that following its landing on runway number 15, it veered off to the right and crossed to G4, a Sub-runway. "The plane settled down on its left wing causing severe damage to its left side. The airport's fire and rescue responded immediately at the location (of the incident) and brought the situation under control". In a press statement, Spokesman Abdulhameed Hamad Aba Aluri pointed out that only 8 members of the plane's crew were on board and managed to evacuate the plane and sled through emergency exits with no injuries recorded. He added that a team of investigators from the GACA's Department of Aviation Safety has launched a probe to find out the reasons and circumstances that led to the plane's veering and existing the runway during its landing.
