Pakistani police say an avalanche has killed 24 people in a remote village in the Kashmir region. Police official Ilyas Abbasi said Wednesday the incident happened about 40 miles (70 kilometers) north of the town of Muzaffarabad. He said little more was known and that police were still trying to reach the village in the Neelum Valley to investigate, according to a report of Associated Press. Rainstorms and melting snow regularly trigger avalanches in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, which is divided between Pakistan and neighboring India.
