The U.S. Southeast was hit by severe thunderstorms overnight Sunday that killed one person, produced possible tornados and knocked out power to thousands in the states of Alabama and Georgia. The single reported fatality occurred in Mississippi, where a 46-year-old woman was killed Sunday when a tree fell on her outside her home. The National Weather Service in Alabama said it received reports of funnel clouds, the distinctive formation associated with tornadoes. Police in northwest Georgia also received reports of at least four funnel clouds, which helped knock out power to about 10,000 customers around the Atlanta area, though most residents got their electricity back by Monday.
