The flu epidemic that has spread through Mexico has forced the South American football federation CONMEBOL to postpone two Copa Liberatadores matches by a week, according to dpa. Mexican clubs Chivas Guadalajara and San Luis de Potosi were to play their home legs in the round of the last 16 in Bogota, but health officials in the Colombian city said they would not allow the games to go ahead. Mexican clubs play in the prestigious South American football event as guests and Chivas were drawn against Sao Paulo from Brazil, while San Luis were to play against Uruguayan Nacional. CONMEBOL said earlier the matches would go ahead in Bogota, after Chile had turned down a request to stage the matches in that country, but Bogota health officials later said that they would not allow Mexican clubs to play in the country. Football matches in Mexico have been played behind closed doors after the outbreak of flu epidemic. Chivas captain Hector Reynoso, meanwhile, could be sanctioned by the ruling body after spitting at an opponent from Chile in a previous Libertadores match. CONMEBOL said that Reynoso's actions had put his opponent in danger of being infected by the flu.
