Canadian police have charged a man with trying to export devices that are used to make enriched uranium but can also have military applications, Reuters quoted officials as saying today. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say Toronto resident Mahmoud Yadegari attempted to obtain pressure transducers. "This device, which is used in the production of enriched uranium, has a legitimate commercial use but can also be used for military applications," the Mounties said in a statement. "The police investigation shows that steps to conceal the identification specifications of these transducers were taken in order to export the items without the required export permits," it added, but did not say where Yadegari had been trying to ship the devices. Yadegari, who is in jail pending a bail hearing, was arrested after a joint operation between Canadian and U.S. authorities. He was charged on Thursday.
