President Barack Obama announced a plan Thursday to create a more efficient record system to streamline health care for wounded veterans. Making the announcement with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Eric Shinseki, Obama said the electronic record would follow a soldier in the military and then later in the VA Department's medical system. Currently, there is a six-month backlog in disability claims at the VA. Because the military and the VA have different medical systems, veterans have complained about bureaucratic obstacles and long waits as they enter the VA system.
