Gunmen attacked a truck carrying several coconut plantation workers in the southern Philippines on Monday, killing three and wounding seven, officials said. Investigators were trying to determine who were behind this attack in Lantawan township on Basilan Island, Police was quoted as saying by Associated Press. Three of the plantation workers were killed instantly and seven others were brought to a hospital in Basilan, about 550 miles (880 kilometers) south of Manila. The attackers armed with assault rifles escaped, police said. Regional police chief Bensali Jabarani said he deployed additional officers to hunt them down.
