The General President of Meteorology and Environmental Protection Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, who is also the Chairman of Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environment Affairs, chaired here today the first meeting of the Governing Constituent Council of the Regional Center for Disaster Risk Reduction for Training and Research. The meeting discussed a memorandum on the role and tasks of the Center submitted by the United Nations and Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport of the Arab League. In a press conference following the meeting, Prince Turki said the Center will work to establish a network of relevant regional, national and local centers to work with and benefit from the Center. The meeting was attended by Margarita Wahlstrom, the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General; Dr. Mohammed Farghali, the Director General of Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport of the Arab League; and a number of experts and specialists.
