German engineering giant Siemens has won a contract worth more than 350 million euros ($469 million) to build a power plant with an integrated seawater desalination facility in the United Arab Emirates, the company announced Monday. The plant is to be built with South Korean partners at Shuweihat, 200 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi. It is expected to go on stream in September 2011, DPA reported. The combined cycle power gas and steam generator plant will generate 1,500 megawatts of electricity and feed 455,000 cubic meters of water daily into the local drinking water network, Siemens said.
