Alaska's Mount Redoubt has erupted again, sending an ash cloud 30,000 feet (9,145 meters) into the air, The Associated Press reported. The Alaska Volcano Observatory says the eruption happened about 8:30 a.m. today. The National Weather Service says prevailing winds are expected to carry the ash slowly to the Homer area. It could take four to six hours to reach Homer, about 125 miles (200 kilometers) southwest of Anchorage. Mount Redoubt started erupting late Sunday. Earlier eruptions were more explosive, sending ash up to 60,000 feet (18,290 meters). Since then, the volcano has had several smaller eruptions with most ash falling on sparsely populated areas northwest of Anchorage.
