President Barack Obama will meet with visiting NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer on Wednesday, the White House announced Tuesday. The U.S. president and the NATO chief will discuss plans for the alliance's 60th anniversary summit in Germany and France on April 3 and 4, the White House said. Obama is committed to NATO and looks forward to reviewing the status of its missions, and he also looks forward to discussing with the secretary-general ways to ensure NATO remains important in meeting 21st century challenges, the White House said. The U.S. president will attend the NATO summit after he participates in the Group of Twenty (G20) global economic forum in London on April 2.
