The decision by Hungary Ferenc Gyurcsany's to resign as prime minister is final, he told the local news agency MTI today, dpa reported. "The decision is final; we will assemble a new government with a new leader. I have complete confidence that we will gain majority support in parliament for the new candidate," Gyurcsany told the local news agency MTI. In a surprise move Gyurcsany announced at a Hungarian Socialist Party convention the previous day that he would stand down. The deeply unpopular prime minister acknowledged that he had become an "obstacle" to effectively tackling the nation's economic crisis. As on the day of his announcement, Gyurcsany again declined to name any potential successors. Whoever does get the job will almost certainly have to make some very unpopular decisions.
