US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was set to bring her country's diplomatic charm offensive to the European Union's headquarters today as she was scheduled to meet with the bloc's top representatives, according to dpa. The US is committed to "strengthening the transatlantic alliance, to supporting a strong Europe that is a strong partner to the US, and to energizing our partnerships to confront the common challenges of our time," Clinton said after meeting NATO counterparts in Brussels on Thursday. According to officials from the Czech government, which currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, Friday's meeting was to discuss relations with Russia, Iran, Afghanistan and the Middle East, and global issues such as the economic crisis and climate change. It was also to touch on a planned summit between EU and US leaders scheduled for April 5 in Prague - the day after a NATO summit in the French city of Strasbourg and its German neighbour, Kehl.
