Speaker of the Iranian Shoura Council Ali Larijani left today for Khartoum to demonstrate the support of his country to Sudan following the arrest warrant issued by the international criminal court (ICC) against Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Basheer. Larinjani is expected to meet with al-Basheer and speaker of the Sudanese parliament Ahmed Ibrahim al-Tahir. Speaking on the occasion, Larijani said the countries which had participated in the conference of support of Palestine, recently held in Tehran, have criticized the decision of the ICC and viewed it as a politically motivated decision which aims at undermining the stability of the countries extending support to the Palestinian resistance. It is high time to voice support Sudan against the trend of some big powers which try to exploit the international organizations for dictating their will, he said and added that we should make it clear that the region cannot afford such adventures. It is worth mentioning that the arrest warrant against al-Basheer was issued by the Hague-based ICC on Wednesday.
