A Pakistani general says troops have defeated Taliban militants in one of their strongholds overlooking the Afghan border, Associated Press reported. Maj. Gen. Tariq Khan told reporters who were escorted to the remote Bajur region by the military on Saturday that a drop in militant activity in the semiautonomous Bajur region is not simply seasonal. Khan said the militants have «lost» after more than a year of fighting and that the military controls the region's roads.
