At least nine people were killed and more than 80 injured, 25 of them seriously, when a Turkish Airlines plane crashed near Schiphol airport just before landing today, according to dpa. Flight TK 1951 had 134 people on board, comprising 127 passengers and seven crew, and crashed on its approach to the airport at 10.31 am (0931), a press conference at the airport was told. Among the 80 injured, six were in a critical condition and may not survive, the head of the emergency team told reporters. The condition of a further 25 passengers was described as "serious", 24 passengers sustained light injuries, while the condition of 31 passengers still had to be established. Three of the dead were crew, according to the Turkish transport ministry, although it was unclear if this included the pilot or co- pilot. Investigation is opened to know the reseason behind the accident.
