Riyadh-based King Abdulaziz City for Sciences and Technology (KACST) and renowned IBM announced, in a joint statement, today that they have reached a new invention in the field of water desalination. Using nano-technology, the two sides' joint research team have developed new membranes that efficiently purify water from salts and poisonous items. The new invention was named "i-Phobe" due to its unique chemical structure of ion carbophobes that enable it perform radical self-change to face new circumstances. The patent has been registered in the joint name of the two organizations and was announced simultaneously by the inventors in the Kingdom and the United States of America. Saudi Arabia is the world's biggest producer of desalinated water.
