The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier has been deployed to Middle East waters to fight pirates, UPI quoted the military as saying. Rear Adm. Kurt W. Tidd, commander of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, said the carrier will patrol nearly 7.5 million square miles in the Middle East region, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported today. The carrier's five-month deployment will involve counter-piracy duties in the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf, along with sections of the Indian Ocean.
