Nigerian police say a judge has sentenced 15 Filipinos to five years imprisonment each on charges related to the theft of oil for overseas sale. The anti-graft police unit said in a statement late Friday the Filipinos were given the prison terms after pleading guilty to conspiracy to steal 12,000 tons of Nigerian oil found inside the ship where the men were arrested Nov. 14. The judge said the jail term could be waived in lieu of a fine totaling the local currency equivalent of about $6,500, according to a report of Associated Press.
