Gen. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, Head of the Military Council in Mauritania said that his country's relations with Israel “are no longer in effect." Addressing a press conference here last night following a visit to the University of Nouakchott, Gen. Ould Abdel Aziz said that his country "no longer has effective relations with Israel," where "we closed the Mauritanian Embassy in Tel Aviv, and its entire staff has returned to Mauritania." The Military Council, chaired by General Ould Abdulaziz, has not dealt with Israel since it came to power on the sixth of last August, till the decision to freeze relations with Israel has been made. Gen.Ould Abdel Aziz has tagged opponents of the coup who had urged the normalization of relations with Israel as they had joined the government of the former president that had received credentials of Israeli Ambassador to Mauritania.
