Richard Holbrooke, President Barack Obama's Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, will travel to India this month as part of a mission to help U.N. forces stabilize Afghanistan. According to Reuters, Holbrooke will be visiting for the strict purpose of helping to stabilize Afghanistan, and he won't be involving himself in the Kashmir dispute. Holbrooke will travel to India after spending some time in Europe, for which he leaves on Wednesday. It is unclear what Holbrooke's strategy will be when he visits Europe and India. The George W. Bush administration constantly asked European allies to contribute more soldiers to the U.N. force in Afghanistan, but was rebuffed. One official told Reuters that some people believe it would be more helpful for the Obama administration to ask for developmental aid.
