British unemployment rose to 1.92 million in November 2008 amid predictions of a sharp economic downturn this year, figures showed Wednesday, according to DPA. Unemployment increased by 131,000 to 1.92 million between September and November. Figures for December, due to be published later, are expected to show that the jobless total exceeded the 2-million mark in the final month of 2008. The official figures come amid predictions that 3.25 million people could be out of work in Britain by the end of 2010, rising to 3.4 million in 2011. The forecasts coincide with an anticipated steep economic downturn in 2009, with a number of institutes predicting that the British economy will shrink by between 2.5 and 2.9 per cent in 2009.
