A spokesman for the president of the United Nations General Assembly said on Wednesday that the 192-member body will hold an emergency session on Thursday to push for a full adherence to last week's Security Council resolution calling for an immediate and durable ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. The meeting has been called to “send a strong message that the international community is fully in favor of an immediate ceasefire,” said Enrique Yeves, spokesman for General Assembly President Miguel D'Escoto. Last week's Security Council resolution has been ignored by both Hamas and Israel. The Israeli offensive to stop rocket firing by Hamas entered its 19th day on Wednesday.
