U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday that he wants the Security Council to act swiftly to bring an end to the Israeli offensive in Gaza, which entered its tenth day. “I believe that the Security Council should live up to its responsibilities under the United Nations charter and bring this crisis to an end and establish a durable, permanent peace in the region,” Ban said. “The civilian population of Gaza is being subjected to a massive trauma that is not of their own making, and I'm deeply concerned about this situation,” the secretary-general added. The U.N. chief was meeting with Arab foreign ministers on Monday afternoon to discuss the worsening crisis in Gaza.
