A leading German politician is badly hurt and a woman is dead after they collided while skiing in central Austria, AP reported. Police said the accident involved Dieter Althaus, premier of the German free state of Thueringen, and a woman they declined to identify in keeping with Austrian privacy laws. The accident occurred today at the Riesneralm ski area in Upper Styria. Orthopedic surgeon Christoph Collersbeck said Althaus suffered injuries to the skull and brain, with minor bleeding in the brain.
