Venezuela said one of its main oil refineries has halted operations because of a failure in the refinery's electrical system, according to AP. The state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA said the Cardon refinery was idled by a failure in one of the turbines that provides it with electrical power. The state oil company said in a statement that the problem paralyzed the Cardon refinery early thursday and also affected some units in the nearby Amuay refinery. It said, however, that the Amuay refinery is now operating normally. Venezuela said despite the outage, it has sufficient inventory of refined petroleum products such as gasoline to meet all of its commitments - both in the country and internationally.
