By 14 countries voted for, with one member (Libya) abstained, UN Security Council adopted here today a resolution supporting the peace process in the Middle East for the first time in five years. In his opening address at the session, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that this meeting is very important for peace in the Middle East. He added that the (Israeli) occupation which started in 1967 must end and it should be for Israel and the Arab world to live in peace. The resolution's draft was submitted by a US-Russian initiative. It supports the Palestinian-Israeli peace process which was relaunched a year ago at Annapolis, near Washington, aimed at achieving peaceful coexistence between the Palestinian and Israeli states.
