House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Democrat from California) said she believed an economic stimulus package to be written next month could cost about $600 billion and would include big infrastructure investments and tax cuts. Speaking at a year-end news conference, Pelosi said Democrats were “hard at work” drafting legislation that likely would be debated next month and said she thought there would be “consensus” on the amount of stimulus spending. Pelosi noted that some economists have called for about $400 billion in infrastructure investments and $200 billion in tax cuts.
