Brazil's government said rising food prices helped drive inflation higher in Latin America's largest nation in November, AP reported. The IBGE government statistics agency said its IPCA consumer price index jumped 0.36 in November. It marked the second rise in as many months. October's increase was 0.45 percent. The IBGE said Friday that the 12-month inflation rate for Brazil now stands at 6.4 percent. Inflation for the 11 months ending in November is 5.6 percent, up from 3.7 percent during the same period last year. Food prices for November rose 0.61 percent while nonfood goods were up 0.29 percent. The central bank's inflation target for 2008 is 6 percent.
