Latvia's coast guard is searching for six people missing after a fishing vessel sank in stormy weather in the Baltic Sea, AP reported. Coast Guard official Roberts Lakucs said the crew of the Beverina had refused help after reporting engine failure late Tuesday about 3 miles (5.5 kilometers) south of the port town Liepaja. Defense Ministry spokesman Aivis Rikveilis said the crew claimed to have the situation under control, but the ship sank within 15 minutes as the weather worsened and the vessel lost electricity. Lakucs said rescuers hope to find the missing despite finding no one overnight. He said a Swedish helicopter is helping in the search Wednesday.
