Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is arriving in Peru's capital Lima on Saturday for a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation organization, Itar-Tass reported. The Russian leader will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with the leaders of the APEC member-states, presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said. The summit, expected to pave the way for coping with new tasks in the interests of development in the Asia-Pacific Region, will open with a full-scale meeting. After that the leaders will confer with the members of the APEC Business Advisory Council. This forum, to which every country delegates its representatives from the business community, drafts recommendations for the summit. “This format allows the leaders to have first-hand knowledge of the approaches the big business captains make to key regional and economic problems,” the Kremlin believes. On Sunday, the recommendations will be presented at another full-scale meeting. After that the leaders will adopt a final declaration. There will be an official photo session. By tradition the leaders will pose in front of cameras dressed in ethnic costumes of the host country. “During the forum Medvedev will hold a number of bilateral meetings,” Prikhodko said. Schedules permitting, the Russian leader will hold talks with the presidents of the United States and Indonesia, China's chairman, and the prime ministers of Japan and Australia. The presidential aide said the number of such bilateral meetings may grow, as the leaders' schedules are still to be finalized.
