State television says police have killed four drug smugglers and have confiscated more than a ton of opium. Tuesday's report says the clash with smugglers took place near the town of Mirjaveh, about 950 miles (1,500 kilometers) southeast of the capital, Tehran. State television says the police seized about 1.6 metric tons (1.8 tons) of opium.
