Saudi Ports Authority (SPA) President Khaled Boubshait yesterday signed an agreement with Huta-Hegerfeld Company to implement the third phase of developing King Fahd Industrial Port, a project that consists of building more wharfs, adding more oil storage capacity and further deepening piers in order to promote the port's handling capacity. The project is expected to last for 15 months. The project will make Yanbu a large deep-water port that will become the Kingdom's first to handle the largest oil tankers. Another project, valued at SR50 million, will see the construction of a new administrative building for the port. Boubshait said the SPA was keen to finish the floating dock project as well. “Work will commence on the project very soon,” he said. Boubshait added that the new ports projects also included the generation of more electric power at the Jeddah seaport and the establishment of more ports on the Arab Gulf, including Ras Al-Zour. --MORE
