Secretary General of The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul-Rahman bin Hamad al Atiyyah underlined the importance of the results of the 27th GCC Interior Ministers meeting, which concluded its deliberations in Doha yesterday. In a statement to Qatari news agency (QNA), al Atiyyah hailed the directives of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, who is also President of the current round of the GCC Supreme Council and said these directives had an impact on the results reached at the end of the meeting. He also praised the proposal of the Saudi Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz al Saud on setting up the GCC Information Centre of Criminology for Drug Control, noting that the centre is a United Nations affiliate body. He said the centre is expected to open in two months, after the endorsement of its basic system which will be referred to the upcoming GCC summit in Muscat. He added that the centre will play an effective role in combating drug trafficking.
