A government official says the death toll from a wave of explosions in northeastern India has risen to 76, with more than a dozen seriously wounded succumbing to injuries overnight, according to AP. Subhas Das, home commissioner in the northeastern state of Assam, says the number of wounded stands at over 300. The scale and planning behind Thursday's 13 blasts have surprised authorities, who have struggled to determine who was behind the attacks _ among the worst in a region plagued by separatism, ethnic violence and Islamic militants. Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Assam's inspector general of police, says federal investigators have started sifting through the rubble of the blasts to determine the type of explosives used.
