A delegation of the Shoura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently taking part in meetings of three committees of the International Parliamentary Union in Addis Ababa today. Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Hilweh, member of the Shoura Council, took part in the Security and Peace preparatory committee for the 120th meeting of the union scheduled for Addis Ababa in April 2009. Dr. Al-Hilweh asserted the commitment of Saudi Arabia to work for curbing the spread of nuclear weapons because such weapons threaten the world peace and security. He cited that Saudi Arabia has ratified the treaty preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons and it's going to continue its endeavor to curb the spread of all types of weapons of mass destruction. He expressed concern that there is on earth tremendous amount of nuclear weapons stockpile estimated at more than 26,000 nuclear warheads, 95% of which exist in the United States and Russia. He said Israel, a country known of its tendency of expansionism, possesses nuclear weapons, posing great danger to peace and security in our region.
