The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has called on all OIC Member States, their NGOs and Philanthropists to extend urgent humanitarian assistance to Algeria following rare torrential rains which killed many people and destroyed properties in Ghardaia, some 375 miles (600 kilometers) south of Algiers in the MZab Valley. In a press release issued here yesterday, Professor Ihsanoglu also made a similar appeal for the Kyrgyz Republic which was hit by an earthquake in the Alai region, causing immense destructions and great loss of life. The Humanitarian Affairs Department of the OIC is therefore ready to receive any assistance in kind or cash so as to deliver it to those affected people both in Algeria and Kyrgyzstan.
