The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions on members of Colombia's main rebel group who represent the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in 11 foreign countries, including Mexico and Canada. The Treasury Department said the sanctions freeze any U.S. assets and bar Americans from dealing with those assets of FARC operatives who serve on the group's “international commission.” “Through their service to the FARC as international representatives and negotiators, these persons provide material support to a narco-terrorist organization,” Treasury sanctions chief Adam Szubin said. “These individuals work abroad to obtain recruits, support, and protection for the FARC's acts of terrorism.” The eight individuals cited by the Treasury Department represent the FARC in Canada, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, BrazilArgentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, and Ecuador.
