An Italian warship was on its way to Malta Sunday with some 101 would-be illegal immigrants rescued earlier south of the Mediterranean island, according to DPA. The African migrants were on a drifting boat and the Italian vessel intervened amid worsening weather conditions. According to the Maltese Army, the group consists of 87 men, 10 women and four children and were expected to be transferred to a Maltese patrol boat later. Earlier on Sunday, another group of 28 migrants arrived in Malta, and were intercepted on land. In the meantime, an Italian Guardia di Finanza vessel also intercepted another group of around 30 boat people some 50 miles south of Lampedusa. They are to be transferred to the Italian island.
