Two kidnapped employees of the U.N. World Food Program have been released, a spokesman said Monday, but 11 aid workers remained in captivity, the Associated Press reported. Peter Smerdon said the two Somali U.N. workers, who had been conducting a nutritional survey between Jowhar and Balad, were kidnapped for several hours by unidentified gunmen before reaching a U.N. building around midnight on Sunday. He did not know the identity of the attackers or their motive.
