Members of a Sudanese rebel group hijacked a Sudanese aircraft with more than 90 people aboard, Arabic language media reported Tuesday, according to dpa. The three hijackers were from one of the numerous rebel groups out of Sudan's troubled Darfur, where the plane originated, according to the al-Arabiya news broadcaster. The flight originated in the city of Nyala in Darfur and was headed to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, when the hijackers demanded the pilots fly to France. The plane was redirected for refuelling to Libya where it landed in the south- eastern Kufra airport, broadcaster al-Jazeera reported. Libyan authorities said it allowed the Sun Air flight to land for humanitarian reasons. The goal of the hijacking were not yet known. At least three local politicians were reported to be on the flight. Broadcaster al-Arabiya reported 87 passengers and eight crew members were on board.
