A gunman entered a Democratic Party office in Arkansas on Wednesday and critically wounded the local party chairman, authorities said. Police on the scene told reporters that the gunman asked to speak to the party chairman, Bill Gwatney, and then fired three shots at the office. “He came in and went into this office and started shooting,” police Lt. Terry Hastings told reporters near the party headquarters. Hastings said Gwatney, a former legislator, was in critical condition. The suspect, believed to be acting alone, was captured by police after being shot, the police spokesman said. The suspect's condition and motive were not known. FBI spokesman Steve Frazier said his agency was assisting in the investigation. “We're aware of it. We're helping the state police right now,” Frazier said.
