Indonesia`s coal exports in July were recorded at 10.334 million tons worth US$453.028 million, director for mining and industrial product exports of the Trade Ministry Hartojo Agus Tjahjono said here on Sunday, Antara reported. He said that his office obtained the data from a surveyor`s mining export verification report conducted in July 5-July 31, 2008. The Trade Ministry has previously issued a regulation requiring the verification of all mining product exports, except oil and gas. The regulation was issued on May 5, 2008 and came into effect on July 5, 2008. He said that the regulation was issued to prevent illegal exports of mining product and to reduce damages to the environment. Based on the data, many of the coal exports were shipped for Asian countries such as South Korea, the Philippines, Japan, China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan ad Thailand. The coals were also exported to Italy. The data also showed that Indonesia`s mining product exports in July 2008 totaled US$811.596 million. China was the only export destination for Indonesia`s several mining products such as iron ores, lead ores, zinc ores and chromium ores. In July, Indonesia exported 413,657.08 nickel ores worth 14.5 million dollars to Japan and 1.059 million tons of aluminum ores valued at 17.4 million dollars to Singapore. Indonesia also shipped 239.8 million tons of manganese ores worth 1.7 million dollars to China and India and 118,060.16 tons of lead ores worth 285.5 million dollars to China, Japan and South Korea. The value of Indonesia`s non-oil and gas exports in 2007 stood at US$92 billion, of which mineral product exports were recorded at US$12 billion. (*)
